Shaking

Shaking helps to discharge and release pent up energy caused by stress and accumulated tension. (Click here to shake the stress off)

 

Swaying

Swaying or rocking gently can help organise sensory input, especially in times of

hyper-sensitivity and stimulation, which helps calm and comfort your nervous system. (Click here for a selection of playful sway practices)

 

Self-touch

Conscious self touch, like self massage or applying pressure to your body in a loving and caring way, helps the mind locate itself in the body, as if to day: I am here. (Click here for a 2 minute practice to try at home)


Free movement

Moving without instruction, giving the body its own expression, can shift one's attention from grasping on to intrusive thoughts into feeling and releasing sensation in the body. Dancing on beach and releasing stress

Animals in the wild have an innate ability to release stress by shaking and other methods, whereas humans can get stuck in their minds. Everyday stresses can cause a fight or flight response in the body, even though we aren't be chased by a saber-tooth tiger. Our bodies hold onto experiences that haven't been processed, which can impact our physical and emotional wellbeing.

 

For me, sometimes verbal words are just not enough. Moving in this way and getting loud with my exhales helps me to process through experiences and everyday stresses.

 

It may be strange at first and might be met with some resistances - that is okay. 

Acknowledge them, release with an exhale and draw in kindness for yourself. The beauty of moving your body in an expressive and playful way is, it doesn't need to be met with judgements or rights or wrongs. Tune in with how it feels, take it as far as you wish, exhale the worrier and inhale the warrior energy today. 🧡✨🔥
