I'm a big kid at heart. So I revel in finding opportunities to play and explore. Everywhere is my playground and moving my body is not refined to the four walls of a studio or gym.
Ask yourself, are the movements you are making serving you? Are you moving in ways which nourish your brain, creativity and energy? Moving our bodies needn't be boxed into the category of 'exercise' and 'a work out'.
Human beings have a remarkable range of movement, especially when we take the time to develop it and keep curious… We can walk, run, jump, balance, climb, swim, hang, throw, catch, dance and so much more!
Sometimes it just takes changing our perceptions of our surroundings and the beliefs of our limitations. We are much more capable and extraordinary than we allow ourselves to be. The type of restorative play we innately need daily is multi sensory and boundless.
Okay so here is a challenge for you today… how about on the bus or train home grab hold of the overhead rail and hang or imagine on your usual route to the shops that the floor is made of lava and you need to navigate the landscape around you.
This is me giving you permission to climb trees, leap, roll, crawl, balance on curb stones - whatever and wherever your creativity takes you. Be surprised by your vastness of physical, energetic and emotional expression.
In transforming your movement gains into playful movement gains, you are changing your creative mind as well your body, whilst stirring up all the important hormones associated with happiness.
Choosing to raise the eyebrows of society around you, may make you feel vulnerable at first, but thwarting social rules allows for creativity to come pouring out of you. Begin to explore our natural human movement repertoire, without focusing on an end result. And I guarantee you will inspire a few people along the way!
Go forth, remarkable and playful explorer!
