Embracing the mess to create space for abundant freedom.
Something that arises a lot for me is worrying about being good enough and seeking perfection. I know for me that this is born less out of ego and more out of caring (sometimes too much) , being passionate about something or someone and the fear of failure.
Learning to let go of control is a daily practice for me. And learning to surrender to mess.
But why do we strive for perfection? What would it look like to you if you let yourself do one thing imperfectly? How does that make you feel?
We unknowingly hurt ourselves through a pursuit of perfection. We mistakenly believe that by becoming what we perceive to be perfect, we will achieve monetary success or that thing we've been striving for…be able to have that lifestyle we want…feel fulfilled and joyful.
But the pursuit of perfectionism actually leads us away from these things. True happiness is found in the messy imperfect act of living.
Let me ask you to think back to when you were a young kid, did you used to pull silly faces? Do you remember getting food, paint and mud over your clothes (and if like me, in your hair too)? Did you eagerly try everything and anything and didn't let fear stop you? I can guess that you said yes to all or at least one of the above. As kids perfection didn't really enter our vocabulary. We were fearless!
That child who is brave and bold is still within us.
I invite you this week to give yourself the space and grace to try a new activity, risk failing, be silly and carefree, or let go of a specific standard you've set for yourself.
Perfection can arguably be linked to living in the future and imperfection; living in the present - Focusing less on the outcome and more of the journey.
Playfulness and creativity are qualities directly linked to imperfection. So a simple way to practice imperfection is to pick up a paint brush, paint and a canvas and just paint. Don't think overthink it or plan what you are going to create, just enjoy the meditative process.
Another accessible way of being playful is to join me for a Fawe movement class. How we move in a class is less about how we look and more about how the movement makes us feel. We create a safe place to allow ourselves to be imperfect. WE MOVE - BREATH - EXPRESS . A somatic movement and transformational class.
Also, if you have come to a beach pop up you will know that we fully surrender to being messy (we get sand in our hair and clothes.)
